Cannon Ball
Pool ™
is the brilliant new
adaptation of
8
ball pool
which allows players to utilise additional versatile
and dynamic combination
shots.
By legitimising normally illegal cannons and plants, 'Cannonball'
produces a
fast-action, intelligent and attack-oriented version of
pool which is taking pool halls by storm.
'Cannonball'
* is simple to learn & remember
* minimises safety play
*rewards attacking & intelligent shots
How to Play
In addition to normal 8 Ball Pool shots,
Cannon Ball Pool also allows the following
combination shots:
Cannons
1. players may first 'cannon' off an
opponents ball before potting one of their own - example.1
2. players may first 'cannon' off their own ball
before potting one of their opponent's - example.2
Plants
3. players may 'plant' an opponent's ball onto their
own in order to pot
their own ball - example.3
4. players may 'plant' their own ball onto an
opponents ball to pot the opponent's ball - example.4
(black constitutes an opponents ball when playing
combinations)
For numbers 1. and 3.
above where the white is first played onto an opponent's ball, a player's own
ball must then be successfully potted, else a foul shot is called.
Multiple combinations are allowed within the same shot as long as
at least one legal combination takes place (and no foul).
(Eg. the white can initially contact opponent's ball
before contacting and potting both a player's
own ball and another opponents ball -
potting own ball legalises the initial contact with opponents ball and the
subsequent potting of
another opponents ball does not constitute a foul).
The other basic rules incorporated within Cannonball are:
If any ball (except black) is potted on
the break-off shot, then the player may choose which set of balls (red or
yellow) he wishes to be 'on'.
There are NO complicated anti-safety rules!
(players may lay 'snookers' as they please but
Cannonball
does not generally degenerate into a tip tap
safety game as the combination
shots above allow players to attack their way out of snookers or 'safe'
positions).
The winning black ball MAY be potted on the SAME shot as a
player's
last colour(s).
A "free table" is awarded following a foul, but two shots are NOT
carried after
the first shot if any ball is potted on that shot.
(i.e. two shots don't carry IF first ball potted)
Following a foul shot the white must be played from the position it finishes and
cannot be moved by hand into baulk*.
...and that's basically it!
Cannonball does NOT need lots of complicated anti-safety and
"tip-tap"
avoidance rules as it naturally produces
a fast flowing and tactical game!
It encourages attacking play and rewards clever thinking as tactical combination
shots allow players to attack their way out of otherwise awkward situations.

"The things I like
about Cannonball are that it naturally encourages attacking play, reduces the
need for excessive 'safety', whilst at the same time it opens
up so many more options for imaginative and intelligent shot selections.
To me, it's the perfect game of pool and it seems to be becoming very
popular.
The feedback from other players has been great and since the website
has been up we've had thousands of hits and lots of e-mails.
We're hoping to build on our initial success with some tournaments in the
near
future, so watch this space.."
